A 19-year-old man and a 22-year-old man are accused of killing Jorge Armando Sanchez, who was found shot on May 31 at the intersection of Peachtree and Lake June roads, according to both men’s arrest warrant affidavits.
Investigators determined the shooting possibly stemmed from a road rage confrontation after speaking with a witness. Police said in the affidavit the witness also provided a recording of the shooting.
The witness said he was behind a black Chevrolet pickup when he saw the truck aggressively drive toward a white Dodge Ram, according to the affidavit. As the trucks stopped at a traffic light, the occupants in both vehicles appeared to have a verbal altercation, the witness told police.
When the light changed, the Chevrolet pulled in front of the Dodge Ram, preventing the truck from going.
The 22-year-old driver of the Chevrolet got out of his vehicle and approached the Dodge Ram, according to the affidavit. The driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as Sanchez, got out of his truck, and the two men started to fight.
In the video provided by the witness, investigators said it appeared Sanchez was winning the fight when a 19-year-old male passenger in the Chevrolet got out of the truck. The 19-year-old was armed with a handgun and shot multiple rounds at Sanchez, according to the affidavit.
The video then showed the 19-year-old put the firearm inside his waistband. According to the affidavit, both men left Sanchez on the ground as they approached Sanchez’s truck and looked inside. They then returned to their truck and fled, leaving the victim critically injured in the roadway, police said in the affidavit.
Sanchez was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Investigators said they used witness statements and video evidence to track the suspects’ vehicle to a home in Dallas. A search warrant was issued, and both men were arrested, police said in the affidavit.
Both men were booked Monday into the Dallas County jail on murder charges. Bail for each has been set at $250,000, according to jail records.
