A 25-year-old Lake Forest man was arrested Friday, June 12, on suspicion of felony hit-and-run after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Irvine earlier this week, police said.

The crash occurred just before 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, at the intersection of Alton Parkway and Irvine Center Drive, the Irvine Police Department said.

According to police, the pedestrian was walking northbound in a marked crosswalk across Alton Parkway on the east side of Irvine Center Drive when they were struck by a westbound vehicle traveling through the intersection.

The pedestrian, identified as Steven Craig Cox, 63, of Las Vegas, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Lizbeth Gwisdalla, was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police initially asked for the public’s help in identifying the driver and vehicle involved in the collision. After the department released information about the crash on social media Thursday, a community member reported seeing a black Ford SUV with front-end damage parked near Barranca Parkway and State Route 133.

Investigators responded and determined the SUV had been involved in the collision, police said, and identified Felix Murillo as the driver.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available.
