Fifteen people were hospitalized — including nine children — after a school bus was rear-ended by a hit-and-run driver on a Queens expressway Wednesday, according to police and the FDNY.
The bus was heading east on the Long Island Expressway around 1:26 p.m when it was struck by another vehicle near 108th St. in Rego Park, cops said.
The kids and six adults were taken to Elmhurst Hospital with minor injuries, according to the FDNY. A schools official said no students were hurt.
“Following an incident involving a school bus earlier today, all students and staff are safe,” said Isla Gething, a spokeswoman for New York City Public Schools. “NYPD and EMS responded quickly and ensured that there were no reported student injuries, and everyone was safely escorted away from the scene.”
“We are closely monitoring the situation and remain in regular communication with the school, students, staff and families,” Gething added.
The other vehicle fled the scene.
