Pasadena’s Bungalow Heaven Home Tour is returning after a year pause because of the Eaton fire.

It will be the event’s 35th tour on Sunday, April 26, highlighting the square-mile Pasadena neighborhood’s rich architectural heritage and efforts to preserve it.

Along the area’s tree lined streets, visitors will be able to go into eight historic homes for self-guided tours, but with support from volunteer docents explaining the history, original features and restored details within each location.

Throughout the route, restoration experts will provide demonstrations of restored works such as Craftsman-era decor, stained glass, tile and more.

The Gamble House and Pasadena Heritage will share their partnership with Bungalow Heaven and their continuous efforts in historical preservation. Fresh-baked cookies, local food trucks, Bungalow Heaven merchandise and a silent auction will be available to participants at nearby McDonald Park.

Bungalow Heaven itself is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and designated as one ofthe “10 great places in America” by the American Planning Association (APA).

The neighborhood was built in the years between 1888 and 1956. Coined by a city planner in the 1970s, the name s a reflection of the abundance of one- and two-story Arts and Crafts, Period Revival, Minimal Traditional and Ranchette homes in the compact, square-mile neighborhood, according to organizers.

Annually, the tour supports historical preservation, but this year the focus will be on community support benefiting the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity for their relief efforts to families affected by the Eaton fire.

In the time following the Eaton fire, Bungalow Heaven organized projects such as “Back to Business” task force in which they contacted affected businesses and connected them with Pasadena businesses that have space for them to temporarily use.

“Our big thing, of course, is to teach people, the general public, about historic preservation,” says Annette Yasin, President of Bungalow Heaven Neighborhood Association and volunteer coordinator for Bungalow Heaven Home Tour. “We’re hoping those people will contribute to the San Gabriel area Habitat Humanity Eaton Fire fund. We will be giving part of our proceeds to that.”

A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity and participants can also make further donations.

It will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 26 at McDonald Park, at 1000 E. Mountain Street.

Advance tickets are on sale for $25, ending at 8 p.m. on April 25. Day of Tour tickets will be $30 and can be purchased at 9:40 a.m. at McDonald Park. To buy tickets, visit BungalowHeaven.org.
