A 26-year-old man escaped police custody Tuesday morning while being transferred from Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in West Philadelphia.
The Philadelphia Police Department said the man received medical care after a shooting and was being transported by police from the hospital at 10:21 a.m. when he escaped. The man was later apprehended by police at 1:15 p.m.
No further details are available, including how the man escaped or why he was in police custody, but police said the Shooting Investigation Group was handling the case.
Officers searched through the city’s West Powelton section, focusing on Baring Street between 37th and 38th Streets, police told CBS News. Officers could be seen in tactical gear scaling fences and scouring the area with police K-9s and drones at the time of the search.
The search area is less than one block from Penn Presbyterian.
