A suspect wanted for raping a 50-year-old woman in a Bronx apartment building was arrested in Brooklyn after someone recognized him from a mugshot the NYPD put out during their manhunt, officials said Saturday.
Isaiah Jones was stopped on a downtown Brooklyn street by a transit cop who had been flagged down by someone who recognized him as the man wanted for the April 17 attack.
He was brought back to the Bronx, where he was charged with rape, robbery, sexually-motivated robbery, and sex abuse. His arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was pending Saturday.
Jones, who is also 50, was grabbed a day after cops released his mugshot, asking anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward. He lives in downtown Brooklyn, near where he was caught, cops said.
His victim was inside a building near W. 164th St. and Ogden Ave. in Highbridge when the suspect approached her around 7 p.m., cops said.
After sexually assaulting the woman, the suspect snatched her gold chain and cross pendant, and robbed her of $50, cops said.
Cops at first released a composite sketch of the suspect, but on Thursday released Jones’ mugshot.
Jones has 11 prior arrests, including for assault, strangulation and burglary. He has no prior sex crimes on record, according to an NYPD spokeswoman.
