A Rowlett police officer was arrested Friday in connection with an assault in April, according to a news release from Rockwall police. 

Rockwall police received a report from a female victim about an alleged assault at an establishment in the 2800 block of Ridge Road on April 19, the release said. Investigators arrested two people in connection with the incident on May 1.  

Marquale Pierson and another individual are facing charges related to assault causing bodily injury, the release said. Both were booked into Rockwall County Detention Center. 

Pierson is a police officer with the Rowlett Police Department, according to authorities. 

Rowlett police issued a statement on Facebook saying they are aware of the “off duty incident.”

The department placed the officer on administrative leave upon learning about the investigation, according to the statement. The department also initiated a professional standards investigation, which is ongoing.
