A 37-year-old man wanted for a fatal stabbing of another man in Pottstown was arrested on Thursday, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office said.

Ryan Scott Grace, who was described as homeless in the Pottstown area, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Shaquille Kare Nicholas and was being held without bail, the district attorney’s office said.

On Wednesday, Pottstown police responded around 2:10 p.m. to the report of a robbery and stabbing on the 300 block of Walnut Street and found Nicholas unresponsive and bleeding from the chest in a first-floor apartment, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

Nicholas was transported to Pottstown Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:59 p.m.

An autopsy determined that Nicholas died from a stab wound to his chest.

A witness told police that Grace and Nicholas “were smoking methamphetamine the night before into the early morning hours,” according to the affidavit.

The witness said they heard Grace and Nicholas in a room arguing about a phone for several minutes, then Nicholas left the room bleeding from the chest and saying he had been stabbed, the affidavit said.

Then, according to the witness, Grace left the room with his right hand under his sweatshirt and ran out of the apartment, the affidavit said.

Surveillance video showed Grace running from the apartment “holding a pointed, knifelike, object,” the affidavit said.
