Dude Perfect, the Frisco-based media production company known for its unique brand of playful — and wholesome — viral social media content, could land a major tax break as it plans a nearly $2 million expansion to its headquarters.
At a meeting this week, the Frisco City Council approved new measures that would designate the city a “Media Production Development Zone” under Texas law and nominate Dude Perfect as a qualified location within that zone. The state must still approve the city’s request. If it does, the distinction means Dude Perfect would be exempt for two years from sales and use taxes related to its construction project.
According to a city document, around $23,000 in local sales tax and $71,000 in state sales tax could be returned to the company. The City Council voted 4-0 to approve the measures, a representative for the city said.
A representative for Dude Perfect did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday.
The production company traces its roots back to 2007, when five male friends — “the Dudes” — met at Texas A&M and bonded “over competitive sports, popular dances and embarrassing haircuts,” according to the company’s website.
The group set up shop in Frisco in 2017 and moved into its current $3 million, 36,000-square-foot production space and headquarters — complete with splashy amenities like a two-story slide and giant soccer ball — at The Star district last year.
“We’re growing, and we need space,” one member, Coby Cotton, told The News in 2024, “so we’re pumped for that.”
But the company is now planning to expand its space again, with a roughly $1.7 million project to renovate its current facility and convert an adjacent warehouse space into “a large-scale production environment, including dedicated production stages and flexible studio space,” according to a city document.
The renovation will also include new office and editing spaces, sound-treated rooms, lighting grids and other features designed to accommodate filming and Dude Perfect’s anticipated head count growth.
