Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Eric Clapton cut short a performance in Spain after being struck by what appeared to be an album cover tossed onstage from someone in the audience.
Video posted online shows the 81-year-old guitarist waving to the crowd when the object bounces off his chest area.
The incident occurred Thursday in Madrid after Clapton played his 1977 hit “Cocaine,” according to fansite “Where’s Eric?”
Guitar World reported that was to have been the penultimate number in a show slated to conclude with an encore performance Bo Diddley’s “Before You Accuse Me.”
Very sad indeed. What kind of idiot does that? pic.twitter.com/0bNZ3wYFU7

“This was Eric’s first appearance in the city in 25 years but the show ended on a down note as an audience member threw a vinyl record at Eric near the end of the show, striking him in the chest,” according to “Where’s Eric?”
“Eric was fine but because of this action, there was no encore.”
Clapton performed in Barcelona three days after the incident.
He’s scheduled to play the first of three upcoming shows in Germany on Wednesday before taking a break, then continuing his ongoing tour in the U.K. in August. Clapton heads to the U.S. on Sept. 6 for a run of performances that begin in Detroit. New York City isn’t among the cities he’s scheduled to visit.
Clapton was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Yardbirds in 1992, with Cream in 1993 and as a solo artist in 2000. No one else has thrice been bestowed that honor.
