Evacuation orders were issued for some residents and later lifted in Chino Hills as a vegetation fire burned about 30 acres Wednesday, May 13.
The evacuations were ordered for Mill Stream Drive, Falling Star Lane, Valley View Lane, Sweet Grass Lane and Rainbow Knoll Lane, according to the Chino Valley Fire District. All were lifted by shortly after 10 p.m., fire officials said. An evacuation center was set up at the Chino Hills Community Center at 14250 Peyton Dr.
One minor injury of a firefighter was reported, the Chino Valley Fire District said.
Officials with Cal Fire San Bernardino County couldn’t immediately specify the number of structures threatened after the Grand fire broke out just after 7 p.m. at Grand Avenue and Pleasant Hill Drive.
The fire held at 30 acres with 0% containment as crews made “good progress,” helped by lower temperatures and higher humidity, the Chino Valley Fire District said. Firefighters planned to continue fighting flames overnight, officials said.
The fire had the possibility of burning 200 acres, Cal Fire San Bernardino County said.
Road closures in evacuated areas were lifted Wednesday night. Grand Avenue between Grand Avenue Park and the Chino Hills city limit line remained closed until further notice, fire officials said.
