A 54-year-old man died in Fort Worth Saturday when he was fatally stabbed by a man attempting to steal his vehicle, according to a statement from Fort Worth police.
Andres Valdez died in the 2400 block of Lillian Street at 11:11 p.m. after he was stabbed in the chest, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office. Fort Worth police said they have arrested a man in connection with the fatal stabbing.
Officers responded to the scene after receiving a call from a person who reported seeing an injured male lying on the sidewalk, police said. The man, later identified as Valdez, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said as officers were investigating the stabbing, another officer at an unrelated call about 2.5 miles away was approached by a 39-year-old man. Police said the man mentioned the stabbing on Lillian Street and “made statements indicating he had stabbed someone during an altercation.”
Investigators determined the 39-year-old man and Valdez encountered each other earlier in the evening. Police said the man allegedly stabbed Valdez while trying to take the victim’s vehicle, then fled on foot.
Detectives determined the use of deadly force by the 39-year-old was not justified under the circumstances, police said.
The man was arrested and booked into the Tarrant County jail on a capital murder charge, according to jail records.
