
James Handy, a longtime actor who has appeared in films like “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Jumanji,” was found fatally stabbed in Los Angeles, and police have since arrested his girlfriend’s son in connection with the grisly killing.
Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded on Wednesday to a residence in the 19200 block of Erwin Street after receiving a disturbing 911 call.
“I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin,” he said, per police.
When they arrived on the scene around 9:30 a.m., authorities found Handy in the front yard, unconscious and suffering a stab wound to the chest. He was then rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. He was 81 years old.
The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, flagged down passing officers and told them that he was the one they were looking for, according to authorities. He was booked on suspicion of one count of murder and his bail was set at $2 million, according to jail records.
Police said Gledhill lived at the residence where Handy was found with his mother, who was the actor’s girlfriend.
Born In New York, Handy kicked off his acting career in the 1970s and has appeared in scores of films and television shows since. He is well-known for playing the exterminator in the 1995 movie “Jumanji,” and he more recently appeared as the bartender, Jimmy, in the 2022 film “Top Gun: Maverick,” according to IMDb. Other credits include some of the biggest crime dramas to air, like “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “The Closer” and “Cold Case.”
