A driver fleeing an attempted stop by Anaheim police crashed his car into a pole in a commuter parking lot in Fullerton and died, authorities said.
Police, suspecting illegal drug activity, tried to stop a silver 1996 Toyota Corolla near Euclid Street and Crescent Avenue just before 1 a.m. on Friday, June 5, but the driver did not yield and a pursuit started, according to Anaheim and Fullerton police.
The driver led authorities into Fullerton, where he entered an Orange County Transportation Authority Park-and-Ride commuter lot at 3000 W. Orangethorpe Avenue and crashed into a concrete pole, police said.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the car was injured, but the injuries were not life-threatening, Anaheim police said. The driver and passenger were not publicly identified.
The crash remains under investigation, Fullerton police said. Authorities asked anyone with information regarding the crash to contact Traffic Accident Investigator J. Munoz at 714-738-6812 or jmunoz@fullertonpd.org, or anonymously contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at 1-855-TIP-OCCS.
