After Thursday’s high of 96 degrees in Dallas-Fort Worth, Friday is expected to start only slightly cooler after a cold front blows through with chances of severe thunderstorms.

Cooler temperatures behind the front should give North Texans a short reprieve from the heat and humidity on Friday, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

The weather service is predicting the heat index, or “feels-like” temperature, will remain in the triple digits throughout the weekend and into next week.

Dallas-Fort Worth residents should plan Juneteenth and Father’s Day celebrations accordingly. The CDC recommends drinking a lot of water and finding shade when possible in extreme heat.

Showers and thunderstorms are possible throughout the day and night Friday, reaching a maximum 60% chance of precipitation, according to the weather service.

Heat and humidity are expected Saturday and Sunday; the heat index could climb to 109 on Sunday, according to the weather service. Precipitation remains possible Saturday before chances are predicted to fall to just 4% Sunday.
