
A 13-year-old boy died after the electric dirt bike he and another teen were riding on crashed into an SUV in South Harlem, police said.
The victim and a 14-year-old passenger were zooming down W. 112th St. on a Razor MX350 Dirt Rocket electric bike when he tried to maneuver around a vehicle turning left on Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd. The boy accidentally swerved into oncoming traffic, colliding with a Chevy Tahoe going in the opposite direction on W. 112th St. around 8:50 p.m. on Thursday, cops said.
The 13-year-old was thrown from the bike, striking his head. Medics rushed him in critical condition to Harlem Hospital, where he died. The teen lived only two blocks away from the crash site, according to police.
The 14-year-old passenger sustained a leg injury. Medics rushed him in stable condition to Mount Sinai Morningside. He is expected to recover.
The 63-year-old Chevy Tahoe driver, who was not injured, stayed at the scene. He was not arrested.
The electric dirt bike model has a maximum speed of 14 mph, according to online sales listings.
The NYPD is continuing to investigate the incident.
