An off-duty Philadelphia police officer is a suspect in a homicide in Northampton County, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.
Police said Saturday that they are aware that the off-duty cop — identified as Kenroy Cummings — was involved in a shooting in Allen Township.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Friday, Pennsylvania State Police responded to the report of a domestic incident on the 1200 block of Old Gate Road.
At the scene, police discovered a 27-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. He soon died at a local hospital. After a brief car pursuit, the suspect returned to the scene, and surrendered to investigators.
“The Philadelphia Police Department’s Internal Affairs Bureau has been notified and has initiated the appropriate administrative investigation,” said a department spokesperson.
Pennsylvania State Police have not yet announced any charges in the investigation, or details on the victim. A coroner said Saturday that out of respect for the family’s privacy, the victim’s identity would not be released until after the autopsy.
