A wanted felony suspect was fatally shot by Fort Worth police following a brief pursuit Saturday evening, police said.
The deadly shooting happened as officers investigated a case involving a suspect with an outstanding felony warrant for tampering with an ankle monitor, Fort Worth police said in a news release.
Officers found the suspect around 8 p.m. in a vehicle near Interstate 35 and Risinger Road. Officers turned on their emergency lights and attempted to pull the suspect over. Police said officers followed the suspect in a brief pursuit until they drove into a parking lot near the 100 block of Palette Drive.
Officers stopped and approached the suspect’s vehicle while giving them verbal commands, police said. The suspect then pulled out “what officers believed to be a gun,” and officers shot the suspect, police said.
The unidentified suspect was provided medical aid but died at the scene, police said.
Officers found a gun inside the suspect’s vehicle during a safety sweep, police said. No other passengers were inside the vehicle, and no one else was injured.
Police have not provided information on how many officers were involved in the shooting and the reason the suspect was wearing an ankle monitor.
