An 18-year-old Garden Grove man was arrested after his 17-year-old girlfriend died following a Sunday night altercation, Garden Grove police said.
Police found the girl, Janely Gutierrez, “bleeding profusely” from her head on the 8800 block of Hewitt Place just after 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9. Police had been called for medical aid.
Gutierrez was taken to a hospital in grave condition and died Aug. 10, police said.
Ethan Vidal who police described as the victim’s “live-in boyfriend,” voluntarily spoke to officers and was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide after police learned the couple had been involved in an altercation, according to the Garden Grove Police Department.
Orange County court records show Vidal has been charged with murder and an enhancement of discharging firearm causing great bodily injury or death.
