21-year-old woman killed in suspected street-racing crash in Mission Viejo

A 21-year-old woman was killed in a suspected street-racing crash in Mission Viejo on Thursday night, Aug. 20, and her younger brother and another driver were arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, authorities said.

Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded around 9:40 p.m. to Los Alisos Boulevard and Mustang Run, where Shalia Deciderio, 21, of Rancho Santa Margarita, was found dead, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.

A preliminary investigation determined the crash resulted from street racing, authorities said.

Jaime Rojas, 20, of Mission Viejo, was driving the vehicle that crashed and was taken to a hospital, the sheriff’s department said. Shalia Deciderio was a passenger in that vehicle, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Lizbeth Gwisdalla.

The driver of the other vehicle, Aiden Deciderio, 20, of Rancho Santa Margarita, remained at the scene. He is the woman’s younger brother, Gwisdalla said.

Rojas and Aiden Deciderio were both arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
