A 63-year-old man sentenced to death in Orange County in 1998 died in a Chino state prison on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Daniel C. Frederickson died at the California Institution for Men. The San Bernardino County Coroner will investigate his cause of death, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Frederickson was sentenced to death after he was convicted of first-degree murder.
Frederickson fatally shot Scott Wilson, the manager of HomeBase in Santa Ana, who refused to give Frederickson access to the hardware-store safe during a robbery in June 1996.
Frederickson, who previously had a criminal record and was a former patient at mental-health institutions, demanded to represent himself. He argued insanity and told jurors to look him in the eye if he were sentenced to death.
They did.
