Goop founder Gwyneth Paltrow has reportedly postponed a Hamptons dinner party honoring OpenAI founder Sam Altman after backlash over the planned soiree.
The Academy Award-winning actor sent out invitations to fete the polarizing tech wiz, who many in the filmmaking community worry could put them out of work with his artificial intelligence products.
Puck reported last week that Paltrow’s “off the record” event would take place in Amagansett before the end of the month.
But it appears to have been called off, at least for now, according to the The New York Times and People. Buzz about the dinner was widely negative on social media. Paltrow was accused of aligning herself with “evil” and “technofascism.”
Paltrow responded to reports of her apparently aborted Altman affair with what appear to be AI-generated invites for a Saturday evening dinner honoring the likes of the AI-fueled villain M3GAN from the 2002 horror film of the same name.
“We’re serving swordfish burritos, Cheddar foam lattes on request,” she playfully captioned the posts put online last week.
The Altman bash was reportedly nixed on Friday.
“The event was postponed for the time being because of the backlash,” a source told People. “The party likely won’t happen.”
Paltrow gave Architectural Digest an early look at the new Goop Kitchen eatery named for her high-end lifestyle line. The sit-down location makes its debut in San Diego next week. Another outpost is expected to open in Manhattan before year’s end. Goop started delivering food in 2021.
