Sarah Khalifa, the star of Egyptian crime show “Mission Impossible,” was sentenced to be hanged for her alleged involvement in a drug trafficking ring.
Local media reported that a Cairo court ruled that the 39-year-old host and 11 other people will be executed after the defendants were found guilty of procuring materials used to manufacture synthetic narcotics with intent to traffic, according to Al Jazeera.
Khalifa — a business owner with 2.6 million Instagram followers — reportedly wept during court proceedings and insisted she’s innocent.
“I don’t need drug money,” she told the court.
She was arrested in April 2025. Several others defendants connected to her case were sentenced to life in prison.
Prosecutors said the alleged criminal enterprise imported materials from abroad to manufacture drugs, which were kept in residential properties. Unlicensed firearms were also seized.
Euronews said that some of the materials were smuggled into Egypt inside cosmetics containers. Khalifa’s businesses reportedly include a cosmetic surgery clinic and an event planning company.
Khalifa can appeal the verdict. That process might include a retrial.
Her brother, Mohamed, was reportedly among the individuals sentenced to death in connection with the case. Defendants who received the death penalty were ordered to pay a fine of $9,290 as well.
Khalifa is also said to have been sentenced to three years in prison in a separate case on Saturday for assaulting her driver.
