A 24-year-old man was killed when a gunman opened fire inside a downtown Brooklyn park during a broad daylight attack Tuesday, cops said.
Jayde Browne was shot in the gut inside the entrance to the soccer field at McLaughlin Park, located at Cathedral Place and Flatbush Ave., around 2:07 p.m., police said.
A maintenance worker at a nearby building said the gunman fired at least two shots.
“(Browne) was lying in the entrance to the park. They were doing CPR, trying to resuscitate him,” said the worker, who asked to remain anonymous.
“I saw him when they dragged him out and put him in the ambulance,” the witness added. “He was under a blanket.”
Medics rushed the victim to New York Presbyterian-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he died.
The gunman ran off. There were no arrests.
A friend of the victim at the scene said Browne was an aspiring rapper who performed under the stage name Taz.
“He was very well-spoken and very respectful. I’m the same age, and he called me Miss,” said the friend, 24-year-old Aaliyah Dorlean. “My boyfriend is damn near his brother. Now he is shot.”
Dorlean said she last spoke to Browne on FaceTime about two days ago.
“He was just here… and now he’s gone,” she said.
Police said Browne lived in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn, roughly five miles from where he was killed.
Shootings are down 66% in the 84th Precinct, which covers McLaughlin Park, with only one incident this year compared with three during the same period in 2025, according to the most current NYPD statistics as of Sept. 13.
That’s better than the 9% dip in shootings across the five boroughs, with only 471 incidents this year compared to 520 citywide last year, statistics show.
