An NYPD officer fired off a round as several cops scrambled to subdue a man accused of slashing two people inside a Far Rockaway apartment building, police said Saturday.
No one was hit by the discharge, NYPD officials said.
The 52-year-old suspect barricaded himself inside an apartment on Beach 54th St. near Beach Channel Drive in Edgemere when cops were called about 11:50 p.m. Friday, refusing to release a 57-year-old woman and a 52-year-old man he had attacked.
The woman suffered slash wounds to the hands and feet, and the man sustained slash wounds to his head and arms, cops said.
During the standoff, NYPD Emergency Service Unit officers repeatedly tried to get the suspect to surrender. When they ultimately made their way into the apartment, an ESU officer discharged their weapon, but no one was struck, police said.
Medics brought both victims to Jamaica Hospital, where they were in stable condition.
Cops took the alleged slasher into custody. Criminal charges weren’t immediately filed.
The NYPD Force Investigation Division was investigating the incident.
