Driver in fatal wrong-way Staten Island crash charged with manslaughter, DWI

The Range Rover driver who killed a 66-year-old woman in a wrong-way crash on a Staten Island highway has been charged with vehicular manslaughter, cops said Tuesday.

Shannon Theodore, of Somerset, N.J., was arrested Saturday and also charged with driving while intoxicated and refusal to take a breath test, in addition to manslaughter, police said.

Following her Monday arraignment in Richmond County Criminal Court, Theodore, 36, posted bail, which a judge set at $250,000 cash, records show.

Theodore’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Theodore was driving a 2019 Range Rover Velar northbound in a southbound lane of the West Shore Expressway around 5:35 a.m. Saturday when near Exit 8 she slammed into a 2025 Kia Seltos being driven south by the victim, Duck Park, cops said.

A 21-year-old woman driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee south in the same lane then collided with both cars.

Medics pronounced Park, of Todt Hill, dead at the scene.

Theodore, along with the Jeep driver and two passengers in the Jeep, a woman, 21, and a man, 22, were taken to Richmond University Medical Center, where they were in stable condition.

Park’s husband, Bruce Park, told CBS News she was on her routine drive to church in Tottenville when she was killed.

The Jeep driver, identified as Nathaly Costa, of Sayreville, N.J., was also arrested and hit with charges of driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by alcohol, cops said.

A judge released Costa without bail at her Monday arraignment, records show.

“When you drink and drive, think about the people,” Park’s husband told CBS. “You have to have responsibility when you are handling the wheel.”

Park was a trained nurse in her home country of South Korea, CBS reported.

“She never complained. She was always happy,” Bruce Park said. “She loved spending time with the church.”

“I know she’s with God right now,” he added. “That made me calm myself down a little bit. Without saying goodbye to her, it hurts me.”
