A 77-year-old Long Island man trying to cross the Montauk Highway was killed after being hit by a pair of SUVs in Lindenhurst on Monday night.

Kenneth Cook attempted to cross Montauk Highway from south to north on foot, between South Wellwood and Washington Avenues, when he was struck by two vehicles at 7:39 p.m.,” the Suffolk County Police Department reported on Tuesday.

Cook was first hit by a 73-year-old man driving a 2021 BMW X5 heading an east, then was struck by a westbound 2014 Ford Explorer being driven by a 20-year-old Emma Pollard.

The victim, who lived in Lindenhurst, was rushed to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, authorities said. Neither of the drivers were injured.

The possible cause of the incident wasn’t reported, and it’s unclear if any charges will be filed. Police said both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Investigators are asking for  anyone who might have witnessed the deadly crash to contact the Suffolk County Police Department’s First Squad detectives.
