A Pennsylvania man has been charged with stabbing his elderly parents to death in their Bucks County home, then killing his sister the next day, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Kevin Castiglia, 55, is accused of murdering his parents, 90-year-old Fred Castiglia and 84-year-old Judith Castiglia, as they slept in their bed in their Churchville-area home, Bucks County prosecutors announced at a press conference.

He then allegedly killed his sister, 53-year-old Deborah Castiglia, when she came to the home on Saturday.

The investigation into the triple murder began Monday afternoon, after Northampton Township police responded to the residence for a well-being check.

Deborah’s boyfriend had alerted police after not hearing from her since Saturday. He went to the home on Sunday and saw her car, but noticed there were no footprints in the snow.

When he returned to the home on Monday, he was met at the door by Kevin Castiglia, who said his sister was likely on vacation, “before brandishing a large ‘Psycho-style’ chef’s knife and threatening to kill the boyfriend,” prosecutors said. The boyfriend left the home and immediately called 911.

When officers arrived on the scene, the suspect was armed with two knives, one of which was stained with blood, prosecutors said. Despite the use of Taser devices, Kevin managed to retreat into the home and barricaded himself in a second-floor bedroom for five hours.

When he was finally taken into custody around 8:30 p.m., officers found Kevin’s sister dead in the kitchen and his parents in their bedroom.

He later admitted to the killings “while being treated at a local hospital,” said Bucks County District Attorney Joe Khan. He also “provided a full confession to detectives.”

Deputy District Attorney Monia Furber, who’s prosecuting the case, said investigators have located one knife they believe was used in the killings.

Kevin Castiglia was arraigned Tuesday evening three counts each of criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse and related crimes, officials said.
