2 dead, 3 injured in crash in East Germantown

Two people were killed and three others injured in a crash involving two moving vehicles and a third that was parked Monday night in the city’s East Germantown section, police said.

Around 8:10 p.m., a Nissan heading west on Godfrey Avenue at a “very high rate of speed” struck a Honda traveling south on 20th Street, said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

A man was pronounced dead at the scene and another male, possibly a young teenager, was taken to Jefferson Einstein Philadelphia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Small said.

Two other men were hospitalized in critical condition.

A 72-year-old woman who was driving the Honda was taken to Temple University Hospital, where she was listed in stable condition, Small said.

A parked box truck that was not occupied sustained heavy front end damage, Small said.

It was not immediately clear if the victims were ejected from the Nissan or if some of them were pedestrians, Small said.
