Born in the same year, 1912, the Girl Scouts and Pat Nixon were linked from the time she was a troop leader for her daughters to when she was first lady and became honorary national president of the Girl Scouts.

On Monday, March 16, members of the Yorba Linda Girl Scout Honor Guard helped pay tribute at the Nixon Presidential Library & Museum to Nixon on what would have been her 114th birthday.

Girl Scout Ava Duff gave a speech and led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by other speakers and a wreath-laying ceremony at the first lady’s grave site in Yorba Linda.

The presidential library also held its annual day of service in the first lady’s honor, with a community service fair focusing on causes championed by Pat Nixon.
