A 44-year-old woman was struck and killed by an ambulance in a hit-and-run crash in Brooklyn on Thursday, according to law enforcement sources.
The victim was struck as the ambulance traveling westbound on Avenue O turned left onto Ocean Ave. in Midwood around 6:38 a.m., the sources said.
Medics rushed the woman suffering severe trauma to Maimonides Medical Center, where she died.
The vehicle sped off after the crash. It was not immediately clear if the driver was aware the pedestrian had been struck.
Sources said the woman was struck by a private ambulance operated by Maimonides Medical Center.
A spokesman for Maimonides said two paramedics were suspended due to the crash.
“The Maimonides family is devastated by this tragic loss,” the Maimonides spokesman said in a statement. “Our EMT staff who were involved in the incident have been suspended pending the outcome of the NYPD’s investigation. Our hearts go out to the victim’s family and friends.”
