Crews were battling a brush fire burning on the southern edges of Camp Pendleton Wednesday morning near an Oceanside neighborhood, base officials said.
The fire was reported about 10 a.m. in the November Training Area near Wire Mountain Housing and the Marine Memorial Golf Course, officials said.
Evacuation warnings have been issued for parts of a neighborhood bordering the base in northern Oceanside, including homes west of Douglas Drive and west of Vandegrift Boulevard, according to online Genasys mapping. The warning zone has also extended south to include the Oceanside Airport and homes to the north.
Residents should prepare to evacuate quickly if needed. A temporary evacuation point has been set up at El Camino High School at 400 Rancho Del Oro in Oceanside.
Oceanside police have evacuated and closed the Oceanside Municipal Golf Course, which sits in the evacuation warning zone, the department said.
A smoke advisory has been issued for Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Bonsall and Fallbrook, according to the county Air Pollution Control District.
