Academy Award-winning actor and philanthropist Charlize Theron will receive an award at amfAR’s annual Dallas charity gala for her humanitarian work aimed at combating HIV and AIDS and gender-based violence.
amfAR, a nonprofit that works to end HIV and AIDS, will recognize Theron with its Award of Inspiration at the fundraiser on October 24.
“Charlize Theron’s longstanding support of amfAR and HIV/AIDS care and prevention through her own foundation make her an inspiration to us all,” said amfAR CEO Kyle Clifford. “We are grateful to her for her tireless work and are thrilled to be able to recognize her at our event in Dallas this year.”
Theron serves as a UN Messenger of Peace and founded the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project focused on the health and safety of young people in South Africa. Programs supported by the organization – including community groups that support sexual health and preventing gender-based violence – have reached more than 4.8 million young people.
Through her organization, Theron also launched the Together for Her campaign with CARE and the Entertainment Industry Foundation which aimed to stop gender-based violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also worked with the Ford Foundation to expand access to vaccines.
amfAR has raised more than $66.5 million in North Texas over the past 26 years for the organization’s biomedical research. Dallas art collector Cindy Rachofsky serves as an amfAR trustee.
The event is typically the height of philanthropic soirees in North Texas. Last year, actress Nicole Kidman presented the award to Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan in a party held at the home of Kathleen and Scott Kirby, the latter of whom is the CEO of United Airlines. NBA legend Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, actress Teri Hatcher and Diana Ross were also among those at the 2025 gala.
The price for entry for last year’s event was $2,500.
