Coachella 2026: Anyma to close festival after canceled Friday performance

Anyma isn’t going to let the weather mar his Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.

The Italian-American DJ Matteo Milleri announced Sunday, April 12, that he would be performing at the Do LaB — along with Marlon Hoffstadt, also known as DJ Daddy Trance — to close out the first weekend of the festival at the Empire Polo Club in Indio.

The announcement comes after the DJ was forced to cancel his Friday night performance due to strong winds and safety concerns.

“Due to strong wind conditions affecting Anyma’s stage build, he is unable to perform. Coachella and Anyma have made this decision together with your safety as the priority,” Coachella said in a statement issued on their app to festival goers Friday night before his scheduled midnight set.

Anyma was supposed to be premiering his ÆDEN: Augmenting the Desert show on the Coachella Stage and said he was heartbroken about the cancellation and apologized on social media.

“I don’t have many words other than to say I’m truly devastated and deeply sorry to everyone who showed up to the main stage, and to those watching the livestream at home,” Milleri wrote on his Instagram account Saturday. “Having the opportunity to perform the new ÆDEN show and share all the new music and art means more to me than I can express. It’s incredibly painful, especially after working day and night for the past year, not just me, but my team and the Coachella crew, who poured everything into this.”

“Safety was and always will be our biggest concern. The dangerous winds not only prevented us and Coachella from building our stage, but also made it impossible for my entire live setup and performance to operate safely,” he continued.

Milleri noted that he was working on a solution to bring some music to Weekend 1 without imposing on other performances already scheduled.

He made good on that promise and will be performing a back-to-back set with Hoffstadt at 10:45 p.m. on the Do LaB stage, now closing out the weekend that he had hoped to start.

The Do LaB made the announcement on their social media accounts saying “let’s end at the beginning.”

The Do LaB also had their own issues Friday due to weather. A light fixture allegedly fell due to the winds onto the crowd during DJ John Summit’s set, striking one fan in the head, according to multiple social media reports.

Winds continued throughout the entire first weekend of the festival with campers warned to make sure all their gear was tied down and take breaks from the elements in their vehicles.

A windblown dust advisory was also extended by the South Coast Air Quality Management District with poor air quality to last through 11:59 p.m. Monday.

High wind gusts could reach up to 51 mph Sunday night throughout the Coachella Valley and get weaker into Monday afternoon, according to the South Coast AQMD advisory.
