Cops shoot man stabbing three elderly commuters at Grand Central Station: police

Cops shot a man who slashed three elderly commuters with a machete during a wild, bloody clash at Grand Central Station Saturday, police sources said.

The incident erupted at the uptown 4/5/6 platform inside Grand Central Station on E. 42nd St. near Park Ave. at about 9:40 a.m.

A transit officer shot and critically wounded a 44-year-old man they saw attacking three commuters with a machete, police said.

Only one round was fired, cops said.

The man police shot ran off and was found inside an idling No. 7 train, police sources said.

FDNY officials confirmed both a shooting and a stabbing were reported at the station with “multiple victims.”

EMS rushed the shooting victim to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition.

Three others, including an 84-year-old man, a 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man, were taken to area hospitals in stable condition. Their victims suffered slash wounds and were not considered life threatening, according to early reports.

The machete was recovered at the scene.

It was not immediately disclosed why the suspect targeted the three commuters.

“I’ve been briefed on the horrific incident at Grand Central this morning,” Gov. Hochul said on X. “Innocent people were attacked in a senseless act of violence. I’m grateful to our brave officers who acted quickly to stop the suspect. We’re working closely with the NYPD as the investigation unfolds.”

The city’s Office of Emergency Management put out a notice on X, warning residents and visitors to “avoid the area” of E. 42nd St. and Depew Place.”

“Police Activity: Expect traffic delays, road closures, mass transit disruptions & emergency personnel,” the alert read.
