Dallas Fire Station 43 has temporarily closed after its primary air-conditioning system failed and portable cooling units caused electrical problems, prompting the relocation of firefighters, paramedics and equipment.
The cooling system at the Northwest Dallas station, near Harry Hines Boulevard, stopped working last week as temperatures repeatedly climbed into the triple digits. Portable air-conditioning units were installed, but they tripped the station’s circuit breakers and caused power disruptions, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.
Crews and equipment were moved to nearby fire stations while technicians repair the cooling and electrical systems. DFR said personnel have been strategically positioned to maintain uninterrupted emergency coverage in Station 43’s district.
The department did not provide an estimated reopening date.
DFR said it performs preventive maintenance on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems throughout the year. The department said the program has reduced the frequency of cooling-system problems across its facilities.
