Dallas resident Sheldon Gutierrez-Rangel, 25, who was a passenger in the FedEx truck, died from his injuries. The driver remains in critical condition, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS Troopers responded to a crash in Hill County near SH 81 and CR 414 about 2 p.m. The vehicle, a FedEx Mercedes-Benz, was traveling westbound when it was struck by a Union Pacific train while crossing the tracks.
There were no other injuries reported, and the train was not derailed, according to DPS.
FedEx said the crash remains an active investigation.
“We are deeply saddened at the loss of our team member,” the transportation company said. “Our thoughts remain with their family and loved ones, and with our other team member as they recover from their injuries.”
The collision follows several incidents between trains and vehicles over the past months.
In July, Dallas Area Rapid Transit service was paused in downtown Dallas and several people were sent to the hospital after a light rail hit a truck.
In June, a motorist died, and two others were injured after a Blue Line Train struck a truck near the intersection of Audelia Road and Royal Lane.
