Eddie Murphy’s son Eric and Martin Lawrence’s daughter Jasmin have welcomed their first baby since marrying last June, proud grandpa Murphy revealed over the weekend.
“They just had a baby girl,” Murphy told E! News on Saturday as he arrived at the American Film Institute’s 51st Annual AFI Life Achievement Award Ceremony to be honored for his work. “They just had her two weeks ago, or a week ago.”
During the ceremony, he received a standing ovation from his peers after a star-studded tribute.
Murphy’s son and Lawrence’s daughter married last June in a private church ceremony, three years after going public with their romance. They got engaged in December 2024.
The couple announced in February that they were expecting, and followed that with posts from Jasmin’s baby shower that included their daughter’s name, Ari Skye.
This is not the comedians’ first joint venture, having starred together in “Boomerang” in 1992 and the buddy comedy “Life” in 1999.
First-time grandpa Lawrence, 61, was over the moon as he shared their pregnancy news on his own Instagram back in February. He had yet to comment publicly about the new arrival as of Monday.
“What a blessing to start the day! My heart is overflowing with love and gratitude after the announcement of my first grandchild!” he wrote.
Murphy is a bit more seasoned, with 10 children, of whom Eric Murphy is the eldest. Ari Skye is his third grandchild.
From what he said, her birth may have nearly coincided with his 65th birthday, which he celebrated on April 3.
