From the minimalism of composer Steve Reich, who studied polyrhythms with the Ewe people in Ghana, to the choreography of Martha Graham, Pearl Primus and Katherine Dunham, traditional West African music and dance greatly influenced the modern performing arts.

Since then, Browne has traveled to Guinea, known for its employment of the djembe drum and accompanying high-energy dances, and turned Bandan Koro into a local performance and educational institution.

Audiences will be encouraged to participate when Bandan Koro brings the music and dance of Sub-Saharan Africa to the Dallas Arts District in Wakati Wa Mavuno, which means “harvest time.” The signature, interactive experience explores the idea of manifesting a plentiful crop through self-reflection.

July 24-25 at Hamon Hall in Winspear Opera House, 2403 Flora St. $34.50. attpac.org.
