A stray bullet fired during a gun battle outside a Bronx deli grazed a 5-year-old girl in the ear on Wednesday, according to police sources.
The little girl was holding her mom’s hand when the bullets started flying outside the Southern Blvd. Gourmet Deli and Juice Bar, on Southern Blvd. near Aldus St. in Longwood, around 5:40 p.m., sources said.
The pair reportedly were caught in the crossfire as rival groups of men opened fire on each other.
Inside the deli, workers leapt for cover as bullets whizzed through the store.
“I heard the shots and I laid right down,” said deli worker Hamood Ahmed, 25. “A bullet went through the glass in the door. I was scared. I’m just glad I’m alive.”
The shooters continued blasting away as the workers scrambled for cover, sources said.
“I jumped to the floor and covered myself,” said Ricardo Aquino Suarez, another deli worker. “I didn’t want to catch a bullet.”
The little girl was struck in her right ear. She appeared to be in shock as medics loaded her into an ambulance, according to Suarez.
“I didn’t see her crying,” the deli worker said. “It was scary.”
Medics rushed the girl to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.
There have been no arrests.
