A gunman opened fire across the street from Central Park following an argument with two other men Friday morning, a startling move that sent panicked pedestrians scrambling for cover, officials said.
No one was hit by gunfire, an NYPD spokesman said.
The gunman ran from the scene — Central Park West and W. 71st St. on the Upper West Side — but was nabbed about 15 minutes later, police said. He has not yet been charged.
The shooting happened at 8:46 a.m. during an argument involving the three men, cops said.
Moments later, a fight broke out between the trio, and the suspect pulled a gun and fired three shots at his rivals before running off.
This is the second shooting to take place in Manhattan’s 20th Precinct — where cops patrol the Upper West Side and protect many tourist attractions, including Central Park, Lincoln Center, and the American Museum of Natural History — this year, according to NYPD statistics.
Only one shooting had been reported in the 20th Precinct since Sunday — one more than last year, cops said.
Shooting incidents are down across the city by 7%, from 434 last year to 401 as of Sunday, cops said.
