The action on the water was a show stopper on the sand with high-flying, high-speed action taking place on the south side of the Huntington Beach Pier.

The Huntington Beach Moto-Surf & Freeride was held for the seventh year this weekend, with more than 100 expected competitors battling it out in the ocean.

In the water series, racers navigate a series of buoys set offshore, needing to weave around waves and swell as they try to speed through the course. The freeriders event showcases acrobatic skills by riders flying and flipping their machines above the ocean — think motocross, but on the water.

“It’s extremely difficult, it takes a lot of time and practice for the guys to do what they do, they put on quite the show,” said Ross Wallach, president and race director of  RPM Racing Enterprises. “To do full 360 back flips and side rolls, and all these amazing tricks, they practice for years.”

Top pros competed in the two-day 2026 Hydro-Turf Best of the West Series, a qualifier event for the MotoSurf World Championship in Lake Havasu in October.
