Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha, are expecting their fourth child, the family announced Tuesday.
The unborn child is a boy and is expected to arrive in July. The Vances are already parents to sons Ewan and Vivek and daughter Mirabel.
“We’re very excited to share the news that Usha is pregnant with our fourth child,” the Vances said in a statement on social media. “Usha and the baby are doing well, and we are all looking forward to welcoming him in late July.”
They expressed gratitude for the “military doctors who take excellent care of our family” and for the staff who “do so much to ensure that we can serve the country while enjoying a wonderful life with our children.”
JD, 41, and Usha, 40, married in 2014 and welcomed their eldest child, Ewan, in 2017. Their second son, Vivek, followed just before the pandemic in February 2020, and their third child, Mirabel, was born in December 2021.
They have kept the children out of the spotlight, even more so since becoming the nation’s second family. JD initially shared the news of Mirabel’s birth on Instagram but later deleted the post.

It’s incredibly rare for U.S. presidents or vice presidents to welcome children while in office. The only first lady to ever have a kid while living in the White House was Frances Cleveland, who welcomed her and President Grover Cleveland’s second child, Esther, in 1893 during Grover’s second term. They also welcomed another child, Marion, in 1895.
JD Vance, like his conservative ally Elon Musk, has made increasing the U.S. birth rate part of his political message since early in his career.
“Our people aren’t having enough children to replace themselves. That should bother us,” he said at a conservative conference in 2019.
