A Los Angeles judge denied singer Cher’s efforts to put her son Elijah Blue Allman under a temporary conservatorship.
Allman reportedly attended the hearing by video from a psychiatric hospital. The 79-year-old performer’s case was denied without prejudice when she failed to show “sufficient urgency,” according to TMZ.
Cher is concerned her 49-year-old son with late Allman Brothers rocker Gregg Allman will “immediately” squander his father’s trust on high living if left to his own devices. He suffered an apparent drug overdose in June, according to USA Today. His mom reportedly filed for conservatorship 18 months prior to that incident.
Gregg died in 2019. A documentary about the “Midnight Rider” singer’s life is expected to hit theaters in June. He was married to Cher for nearly four years until their divorce in 1979. He too struggled with drug addiction.
Elijah is slated to inherit money from his father’s estate on May 1. He’s facing charges of simple assault, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct in connection with a disturbance he’s accused of causing in a New Hampshire school, according to local news station WMUR. Days later he was accused of breaking into an area home. A June 16 court appearance has been set.
Cher is allowed to further challenge the court’s conservatorship decision. Her son talked about his substance abuse issues in a 2014 ET interview.
“I started with drugs around the same time that we all did, around 11,” Elijah said.
He recalled using marijuana and ecstasy before graduating to heroin.
