Singer Lana Del Rey was caught off guard when she was approached by a woman asking for money to flee an abusive relationship while filming in her car.
The 41-year-old “Bluebird” singer posted a video on Instagram that shows her rolling down her window to seemingly hand $100 to a person not seen on camera.
“You got me when I was filming,” Del Rey says in the video posted Sunday. “Try to stay away. Be careful.”
Del Rey captioned the video with a message explaining that she was listening to the Tate McRae song “Rubberband” when she was approached in what appears to be the Highland Park area of Los Angeles.
“When you’re listening to Tate’s song about Highland when you’re sitting at a light on Highland and a woman sticks a sign on your window that says trying to stay out of an abusive relationship,” she wrote.
McRae’s 2021 tune is about regrets over a relationship that went awry. Its lyrics include the lines “Midnight driving, running through Highland, does it make me the criminal, that I let you go.”
Del Rey recorded a song called “Hundred Dollar Bill” around 2009. It’s about a man who treats her badly. The track doesn’t appear on any of her studio albums.
She married Louisiana boat tour operator Jeremy Dufrene in 2024. Shortly after the nuptial she said the relationship was going well.
“We’re happy,” the New York City native told a red carpet reporter.
She previously dated musicians Evan Winiker, Jack Donoghue, Clayton Johnson and police officer Sean Larkin, according to Harper’s Bazaar.
