1 Festive hats and a woman trainer –– Re: “Magic blooms at Mad Hatter’s Tea,” by Sarah Hepola, May 3 Arts & Life story.
I loved the photos and story about the beautiful hats and festivities at the Mad Hatter’s Tea. The story shared with us a spring mood of joy. And it showed the amazing talent it takes to make those festive hats.
At the same time, there were similar traditional festivities at Kentucky Derby Week with the lovely hats there. Plus, I loved the news that for the first time a woman trainer won the race. (That was some last-minute ride by Golden Tempo from the rear to the front of the pack.)
It’s a proud time for all the ladies and those who were at these events.
SMU’s location in Dallas has undoubtably contributed to its rise in national prominence. President Jay Hartzell’s creation of “The Dallas Office,” to be led by Kit Sawers, feels like an important harbinger of good things to come.
There are boundless ways SMU can contribute to Dallas’ intellectual and cultural prosperity, and Sawers possesses the intellect, energy and entrepreneurial spirit necessary to lead the effort.
Hartzell has taken a bold step in a new direction with promising possibilities and chosen a proven leader to shepherd it. It’s a good day in Dallas.

3 Addison Rotary Club –– The Addison Rotary Club has been serving our community since August 1984, and we recently reached a milestone we had never experienced in our club’s history. We held our very first baby shower!
Two of our club members are expecting, and the entire club gathered to celebrate with them as they opened gifts and looked forward to the exciting new chapter in their lives. It was a joyful and heartwarming occasion that reminded all of us why community matters so much.
After more than 40 years together, it is very special to welcome the next generation into our Rotary family.
