A Palm Springs mid-century home once owned by the award-winning actress-comedian Lily Tomlin is on the market for $3.895 million.
The 4,671-square-foot house, known as the “Lily Pad,” sits on a half-acre in the Old Las Palmas neighborhood. Completed in 1952 and updated, it has four bedrooms and seven bathrooms.
Records show Tomlin bought the retreat for $496,000 in August 1997. She and her wife, Jane Wagner, used the house as a getaway for several months out of the year before selling it for $995,000 in 2003, according to “Palm Springs Confidential: Playground of the Stars” by author Howard Johns.
Following that sale, the new owner renovated the home and added an attached guest house. It spans nearly 1,000 square feet and has a living area with a fireplace and a bedroom suite.
In May 2004, the house sold to the current owner for $2.3 million.
The main house boasts travertine tile flooring and a spacious living room with a wet bar.
Fleetwood sliding doors connect several areas of the home, both public and private, to the backyard pool, spa, outdoor kitchen and natural stone fireplace. Direct backyard access also extends from the primary suite, which features a soaking tub, a walk-in shower, a built-in wardrobe, a built-in desk and one of the home’s five fireplaces.
The eat-in kitchen contains stainless-steel appliances and a center island with a cutting board top. Through the doorway is the enclosed dining room.
Heidi Meaney of Bennion Deville Homes has the listing for the property.
Tomlin, 86, is an Emmy, Tony and Grammy winner who rose to fame on the variety show “Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In” after joining the cast in December 1969. In 1975, she made her movie debut with an Oscar-nominated Best Supporting Actress role in Robert Altman’s “Nashville.” Her long list of credits ranges from the 1980s hit “9 to 5” to her recent seven-season run on the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie.”
A recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor and the SAG Life Achievement Award, Tomlin is preparing to auction the fine art photography collection she built with Wagner through Bonhams. The online sale, “Lily Tomlin and Jane Wagner: Wit, Women and the Art of Collection,” runs from March 31 to April 9.
