A man fatally shot in the chest and groin on a Bronx street was a father of two, his family said. Police still have not said what motivated the killing.

Amaury Toro, 43, was gunned down near a bus stop on Grand Concourse near E. Burnside Ave. in Fordham around 2:30 a.m. on Thursday, according to law enforcement.

“We’re grieving right now,” a relative of Toro’s told the Daily News. “He was a good man.”

Police said Toro lived at an apartment building in Bedford Park less than two miles from where he was shot to death. But neighbors there said they hadn’t seen him in months.

Toro had been arrested 16 times in New York City, including for once for a drug-related offense.

He was also arrested in the Bronx on March 18, 2025, on a bench warrant out of Bucks County, Pa., for a fraud-related incident, according a local sheriff’s office’s website.

A woman who lives near the bus stop where Toro was shot overheard the gunfire outside her apartment and rushed to her window to witness the bloody aftermath.

“There were two shots. And then maybe four or five more. ‘Pow-pow-pow-pow,’” Carmen Escarraman, 61, said.

“Everybody ran across the street. One guy was over him, pushing on his chest. He was saying, ‘Open your eyes. You have a family. Don’t die. Open your eyes.’”

Medics rushed Toro to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he died.

Police had to work to identify Toro, since when he was shot, he had no ID on him, cops said.

No arrests have been made.
