
A 40-year-old man was killed after a driver lost control and plowed into a bus stop near the Staten Island mall early Monday.
The 51-year-old driver was heading south on Ring Rd. around midnight when he lost control of his 2015 Nissan Pathfinder and struck the victim at the bus stop just north of Platinum Ave. in New Springfield, according to law enforcement officials.
Medics rushed the victim to Staten Island University Hospital, where he died.
The driver remained at the scene. There were no arrests.
The bus shelter serving S44, S59 and S79 buses was heavily damaged in the crash, according to the Staten Island Advance.
