Map: Where fireworks are legal, illegal in OC, LA, Riverside and San Bernardino counties

Fireworks laws vary city to city across Southern California as many cities prohibit the use or sale of any fireworks while others allow those labeled “safe and sane.”

As you plan Fourth of July Independence Day celebrations, we have created a map to help you navigate where you can and can’t use safe and sane fireworks in Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

All the cities that do allow fireworks only allow “safe and sane” fireworks. Generally, that refers to fireworks that do not explode or fly, since those are less likely to cause injury. These fireworks should have a logo that says they are registered “safe and sane” fireworks.

Using illegal fireworks that are not registered safe and sane or using any fireworks in cities where all fireworks are prohibited can result in significant fines.

Some cities that permit fireworks may only permit them in certain locations, such as Orange, Anaheim, San Bernardino, Grand Terrace and Fontana. Check with those cities for more specific information about where fireworks are and aren’t allow. For example, in Orange fireworks are prohibited in the hills and in Anaheim no fireworks are allowed east of the 55 Freeway due to wildfire risk.
